Every animal is different, and the amount of food greatly depends on the diet of the animal involved. As a general rule, I prefer to feed my animals on a set schedule, and allow them to eat, as much as they would like within the prescribed feeding period. The suggested portions found on your dogís food is a great starting point to determine if you are over/under feeding. Check with the breeder for instructions on checking the weight of your dog. Your breeder SHOULD send food home with your new puppy or dog including frequency of feeding and prescribed portions. Changes to the diet should be accomplished in a slow and consistent method as to not upset the animalís digestive system.
